Trump, Clinton fued boils into Christmas
A CNN poll out Wednesday shows Donald Trump leading the Republican field for president by 21 points over his nearest rival, Ted Cruz. At his final campaign rally before Christmas on Monday night in Grand Rapids, MI, Trump used a Yiddish term for a part of male anatomy when describing Hillary Clinton’s primary loss to Barack Obama in 2008.
“She was gonna win and she got schlonged,” Trump said.
“For him it was a normal way of speaking but to the rest of America it was pretty shocking,” Patrick Davis, a longtime Republican consultant said.
Others say it is a term commonly used in politics when a candidate is badly beaten.
Davis calls mudslinging effective.
“It does translate to votes unfortunately,” Davis said. “The level of political discourse is so low. The fact that he’s not dropping in the polls and Trump’s saying things like this probably reflects the way the country is going right now and I expect a lot more of this.”
Bob Stovall owns a public relations firm in Colorado Springs and says he would not be a good fit to work with Trump.
“I would not advise anyone to do what he’s doing,” Stovall said. “But, Donald Trump is who he is and I don’t think he’s looking for people to give advice like that.
“The candidate who can get their opponent’s negatives up faster, wins, it’s a race to the bottom,” Davis said.
