Springs’ Citadel Mall sold

A shopping mall on the southeast side of Colorado Springs has been sold.

A partnership involving New York Companies Namdar Realty Group, Mason Asset Management and CH Capital bought the Citadel Mall in a deal that closed Monday.

Mason President Elliot Nassim told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the company doesn’t discuss future plans for the properties that it buys.

The mall, which opened in 1972, is in the 700 block of Citadel Drive East, near the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and East Platte Avenue, and has been a staple in the community for years.

“I’ve lived in Colorado for 28 years now and the mall has always been around. My parents used to take me and today I still shop here,” said Jennifer Lamontagne.

At the malls peak, the million square-foot building attracted large crowds. However, Lamontagne admits she’s noticed stores closing over the years.

“There’s some stores that have gone out of business and leaving but we can always use more stores in there,” said Lamontagne.

Mason President Elliot Nassim won’t say whether they plan on revitalizing or closing the mall.

“I think it should stay open. I go to school here and would have to relocate if they shut it down,” said Juan Romero.

While exact plans haven’t been revealed, shoppers hope new ownership brings new stores and life to the Citadel.

“I hope they revitalize and keep it open with the stores they still have in it,” said Lamontagne.
