Two dead in Pueblo County murder-suicide identified

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of two people in Rye that they believe to be a murder-suicide.

Investigators went to a home in the 8200 block of Kinnikinic Avenue around 2:40 a.m. Monday to check on a woman who told a friend that a man she knew was in her house and refused to leave.

When deputies arrived, they found the bodies of a man and woman in a bedroom. Both had been shot in the head.

On Tuesday, the woman was identified as Faith Dzara, 26, of Rye and the man was identified as Race Schulze, 26, of Belton, MO.

Investigators say they dated in Pennsylvania in 2010.

“When the officers pulled up, they heard two gunshots. After hearing the gunshots, they got out of their cars and safely worked up to the house. When they peeked in the house, they could see a female down,” said Capt. Don Leach.

The sheriff’s office says the inside of the house smelled of petroleum fuel and a combustible stove was set at a dangerously high temperature.

The home was cooled down and aired out before the investigation could proceed.

“The officers were immediately concerned that they were in danger,” Leach said. “Most of these houses are heated with wood stoves. If you have any open flame, or even pushing the door and adding oxygen, could cause an immediate explosive reaction.”

“The circumstances and motivation for such a tragedy is something our detectives will work to figure out,” said Sheriff Kirk Taylor. “We extend our thoughts and prayers to the families’ of these individuals”.
