One dead in Caon City apartment fire

The Caon City Area Fire Protection District says one person died in an apartment fire Tuesday morning.

The fire happened in the 400 block of Macon Avenue. It was reported at 9:53 a.m. on December 22, 2015.

When firefighters arrived, they found that a fire was burning in a unit on the lower level of a four-story building.

One person was in the apartment that caught fire. That person was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

Nineteen people were displaced, but they have been allowed to return home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
