Family and friends collect gifts in honor of loved one

A mountain of gifts is being collected for kids in need. It’s being done in honor of a Pueblo man who died almost 10 years ago.

For the 27th year, the Sunset Inn has collected gifts to give to Posada, an agency that helps homeless people.

Owner Gerda Chavez said the restaurant collected more than 400 gifts this year. She said family and friends are doing it in honor of her son Taustin Chavez, who died in a car accident in 2006.

“He enjoyed people. He was a DJ. He would spin records. He was a funny kid. I think to keep his name going we keep doing this for a lot of years,” she said.

More than 150 kids will receive gifts from this drive.
