Driver accused of firing gun at deputies during Fremont County pursuits
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says a Penrose man twice shot at its deputies during pursuits Sunday night and Monday.
The first chase started with an attempted traffic stop at Reynolds and Highway 50 in Caon City. Deputies and police tried to stop a gray Volkswagon Jetta at around 11 p.m. The driver refused to stop and deputies chased the car westbound on Highway 50.
The sheriff’s office says that shots were fired from the car during the chase. The driver temporarily got away on Highway 9 in Teller County.
The second pursuit started with an attempted traffic stop Monday on Highway 115 coming into Penrose. The sheriff’s office says that the driver once again fired shots at detectives.
The car eventually stopped in the 600 block of Q Street in Penrose. The driver got out of the car and began running. He was arrested a short time later.
The sheriff’s office says it suspects Devlin Lee Palaza, 43, of being the driver.
Palaza was wanted on outstanding warrants and new charges are pending. The sheriff’s office says no one was hurt during either encounter.
