Christmas week anticipated to be busiest travel week on record

This Christmas weekend is expected to be one of the busiest on record. Colorado Springs airport has had a busy week and preparing for an even busier weekend.

More than 100 million Americans are expected to take a trip 50 miles or more this weekend. AAA predicts it to be a record breaking weekend.

“It was crowded there were no available seats for standby passengers, but the flight was really good,” said Zania Laws.

Some travelers say the chaos was nothing compared to other airports.

“In the Orlando airport it was extremely busy. Dallas was busy also but there were no delays. Everything was running smooth, so it was perfect,” said Mike Gonzalez.

Gonzales says wait times were longer than expected. “Yes, there were very long lines,” said Gonzalez.

But he says the wait was worth it to be back home for the holidays. “I’ll be back home for 10 days. It’s a beautiful thing to be back in Colorado,” said Gonzalez.

Roads will also be busy these next few days, 1.47 million people in Colorado are expected to travel by car.
