Large house fire extinguished in Penrose
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said a large house fire was burning in the 700 block of Sherrill Place in Penrose Friday evening.
Penrose is located off Highway 115 about 30 miles southwest of Colorado Springs.
The fire call came in just before 6 p.m. and the blaze was put out around 9 p.m. The cause of the fire is unknown.
A man who lives inside the home believes the fire may have started outside near the porch.
“I just heard somebody yell my name like something was going on. I came out my bedroom door and there were flames coming out of the back porch room,” said Tyler Pringle.
Pringle describes the home as a total loss.
“I’m kinda shocked to lose everything I have, but I’m more sad for my mom. She’s older. I can rebuild I’ve done it before, but I’m really sad for my mom. We lost everything,” said Pringle.
KRDO viewer Rick Mercer shared a photo that showed large flames and thick smoke. He said he heard several loud bangs, possibly the result of exploding ammunition.
One other home received minor heat damage. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation since more than one home was damaged.
