Hundreds of kids receive gifts in annual Pueblo tradition

It’s an annual holiday tradition in Pueblo that honors the life of a woman who gave gifts to kids during Christmas time.

The 11th Mama Jaramillo Christmas Stocking Giveaway happened Saturday.

People packed St. Anne’s Park in Pueblo’s East Side.

Mary Jaramillo started the event. She died in 2009 and her family continued the tradition.

Irene Avalos said this event helps to give her grandkids a merry Christmas.

“It means a lot to us. You know, a lot people have hard times and to get a gift like this is a blessing,” she said.

More than 600 kids received gifts. The items and food were donations from organizations around Pueblo.
