Concealed Carry permits spike

more people than ever in our region.. are looking arm themselves with a gun. records are being set.. when it comes to people applying for concealed hangun permits. krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller is live at the el paso county sheriff’s office. greg, that’s one of the places you have to go.. to get a permit.. but it’s not that simple. the wait here can take at least a week. and that’s if you completed a safety class – which has a wait list too. nats – these kinds of guns are usually what i use for training. ava lanell teaches several gun safety courses at elite training. courses you have to take before applying for conceal/car ry. ava flanell – i do have all women classes, but i get a lot of guys who are beginners who have never shot before in their life. but if you want to take her class, it’s going to be a while. sot: i still have some availability in my classes, but i’m pretty muched booked until mid- february. it’s a backlog she hasn’t seen in 3-and-a- half years. sot: for the most part everyone has said, is because of oeverything happening in the world. standup: if you would have asked one of the students how long it would take to get an application with the county, they probably would’ve said about a week. but the sheriff’s office says it could be longer now. we experienced a pretty some pretty historic events here in el paso county. starting with the halloween shooting and the suspect being shot by police officers… then fast forward to the planned parenthood shooting. 200 people applied in the last week alone. the increase began in 2012 when 22- thousand permits were filed. this year to date: more than 37- thousand. trainers believe the interest in guns comes in waves… sot: it was busy this time last year, but it has been, at this point, it’s almost difficult to keep up. but with appointment s booked out months ahead… it may be the trend. remember, for a conceal and carry permit you have to take training from a certified instructor, get your certificate, then take it to the sheriff’s office for the permit. live in cs, gm, nc 13. the retired
