Audubon’s 116th Annual Christmas Bird Count

The Bear Creek Nature Center in Colorado Springs will be the site of the Pikes Peak Regions’ contribution to the Audubon’s 116th Annual Christmas Bird Count.

The Audubon Society and other organizations use the data collected in this long-running wildlife census to assess the health of bird populations, and to help guide conservation action.

Bear Creek Nature Center in Colorado Springs will host the count on Saturday. It will take place in an established 15-mile wide diameter circle – supervised by a count compiler. Volunteers will follow specified routes, counting every bird they see or hear.

Jamie Bequette, of the Bear Creek Nature Center says that you don’t have to be an ornithologist to take part. Earlier today, she told us that: “If you have an interest in birds, be it, you don’t know anything about birds, to, you’re the best birder around, everyone’s welcome”.

The bird count is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday; beginning at the Nature Center, located at 245 Bear Creek Road in Colorado Springs.
