City Names Contractor to Build Pikes Peak Visitors Center

A new Pikes Peak Visitors Center came one step closer to becoming a reality today when G.E. Johnson Construction was officially named as the General Contractor and Construction Manager for the project.

Mayor Suthers, who was on hand for today’s announcement, stated that he’s confident with the choice that was made. It will also bring construction jobs to the area.

He told NewsChannel 13 today that, “We’re very optimistic about them working with the design team to come up with an outstanding product for the top of pikes peak”.

Jim Johnson, President and CEO of G.E. Johnson Construction, told us that “We would absolutely plan on using Colorado Springs subcontractors as well as employees” to complete the project.

G.E. Johnson also built the Pikes Peak Center, The World Arena and Broadmoor West.

The next step will be the selection of a design in January. They have been narrowed down to four.
