UPDATE: No arrests in hazmat false alarm in Colorado Springs

No arrests will be made after a false alarm call of a body and hazardous material in Colorado Springs Monday.

Police found what they feared was a hazardous material in a downtown building while investigating a Crime Stoppers tip.

Officers responded to a vacant industrial building in the 200 block of West Colorado Avenue around 2 p.m. to investigate a report that a body was inside.

During their investigation, the officers noticed a white powder that the owner of the building said was dangerous.

The Hazardous Materials Unit of the Colorado Springs Fire Department tested the powder and determined it was harmless.

Authorities did not find a body inside the warehouse, which was a former metalworking shop.

“I’m glad they didn’t find a body,” an unidentified woman said. “We’ve had enough bad stuff happen lately.”

Police allowed truck traffic to drive through the scene, and the situation also forced cheerleaders from Palmer High School to walk around the area to reach a practice gym.
