Organizations help feed the needy in El Paso County

Thousands of kids received gifts for the holiday season in Colorado Springs.

Lines were going out the door for the annual Feed the Children event at Springs Church Saturday.

More than 5,000 people were given food, gifts and other items.

Charline Apthrop said events like this one are important for her family.

“I want to give them a good Christmas, so this helps a lot. The food helps with Christmas dinner, so I want to help as much as I can and give them as much as I can,” she said.

More than 45,000 pounds of food were given away at the event.
