‘Gunman’ reported at restaurant east of Denver was carrying band equipment

Law enforcement swarmed Lulu’s Inn in Watkins Friday after receiving reports that a gunman was inside.

Watkins is located north of I-70 and southeast of Denver International Airport about 13 miles east of Aurora.

The Adams County SWAT team went into the restaurant at around 12:40 p.m.

Witnesses told KMGH that a man walked in the front door of the restaurant with a gun and employees and customers ran out the back door.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office told KMGH that the man was actually carrying band equipment, like a mic stand or a cymbal stand, not a gun.

The man was taken into custody for questioning and then released.
