El Paso County sheriff’s deputies trade in badges for aprons for a night
El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies traded in their badges for aprons for a night.
“It’s personal interaction we don’t normally get. We’re busing tables, we’re delivering food,” said Daniel Leblan.
Deputies aren’t just serving food at Texas Roadhouse, they’re serving the community in a time of need.
“Things have been tough in Colorado Springs. Not only do we feel it as police officers and sheriff’s deputies, but the public feels it as well,” said deputy Tom Neumann.
One customer, Adele Walker witnessed the tragedy on black Friday.
“I work at the hospital and I saw them making up the carts for the injuries coming in,” said Walker.
Walker says seeing officers serving in a different way helps connect Colorado Springs.
“I think that the public needs to connect with the officers more and it has been a hard time,” said Walker.
For all the contributions made, proceeds went towards Colorado Springs Special Olympics. Deputies they were giving back to both Special Olympics and the community.
“Based on recent current events, it’s great to get out and still be in the public eye as doing a good deed and being a good person,” said Delany Jefferson.”
All of the officers volunteered their time, it’s something several of them do every year for Tip-A-Cop.
“A lot of us appreciate doing it and we fill in the shoes where others can’t, because you know there’s a lot of other deputies working 24/7 right now,” said Lebaln.
Officers participated at three Texas Roadhouse locations, two in Colorado Springs at 595 S. 8th St. and 3120 North Powers Blvd. and one location in Monument at 16196 Jackson Creek Parkway.
