Thinking of a Drone for Christmas?

Once again, drones and quad copters look like some of the hottest gifts this Christmas. The consumer electronics association projects $135 million dollars in revenue to come from drone sales this year. That’s up 55 percent from last year.

If you’re planning to give – or receive – a drone for Christmas, there are some things that you should know:

First , the options – they range in price from $30 to of thousands of dollars and have features such as acrobatics, GPS and on board cameras. Some are designed for indoor use, while others can fly for miles outdoors.

Next, while they look like a lot of fun, there are laws set by the FAA that could get you in big trouble if you break them.

Here are the big ones:

Stay under four hundred feet.
Keep your drone in sight at all times.
Stay far away from manned aircraft.
Don’t fly in bad weather… such as high winds and reduced visibility.
Stay five miles away from an airport or two miles from a heliport.

And in Colorado… drones or quad copters may not be used to help hunters in any way… including scouting.
