Beefcakes the dog makes quick recovery after shooting

A pit bull that was shot in the face in July is reported to have made a complete turnaround after undergoing multiple surgeries to repair his shattered jaw.

The Times-Call reports that Longmont Humane Society staffer John Mangini says Beefcakes’ recovery has been the quickest he’s ever seen in a dog. Doctors have performed a series of surgeries on Beefcakes, including one to remove the bullet and another to remove pieces of bone in his jaw.

Boulder County prosecutors say Russell William Middleton shot Beefcakes in the face after the dog got into a fight with a Chihuahua that belonged to the man’s girlfriend. The 38-year-old suspect is facing several charges, including aggravated animal cruelty.

Middleton is scheduled to be arraigned in court in January.
