You Can Cut Your Own Tree

The US Forest Service is selling permits that will allow you to cut your own tree – and it only costs $10.

Dan Timm has been cutting his own tree for over fifteen years. His reasons for doing it are plain and simple. He says, “I live in Colorado because I’m an outdoor person and it gives me an excuse to get out in the beautiful mountains and help the forest health.”

The Pikes Peak region will be selling permits through December 16th, which will allow you to find your perfect tree near Woodland Park.

Roads are rough and snowy this time of year, so a 4-wheel drive or chains are required. You will also have to take a hand saw or an axe – chainsaws are NOT allowed!

You’ll also want to think ahead about how to get it out once you’ve cut it. A sled, a rope or a tarp are your best bets.
