‘I am a warrior for the babies’: Multiple outbursts during Planned Parenthood shooter’s court appearance

Black Friday shooting suspect Robert Dear was in court Wednesday to hear the formal charges filed against him.

A total of 179 felony counts were filed against Dear, including 8 first degree murder charges and 131 attempted first degree murder charges.

District Attorney Dan May says additional charges may be filed. A gag order has been imposed.

Dear, 57, is accused of killing three people and injuring nine others at the Planned Parenthood on Centennial Boulevard in Colorado Springs. The shooting happened on November 27.

“I am guilty, there will be no trial. I am a warrior for the babies,” Dear said during one of at least 16 outbursts.

Other courtroom outburst quotes from Robert Dear included “You’ll never know what I saw in that clinic. Atrocities. The babies. That’s what they want to seal,” and “Planned parenthood and my lawyer are in cahoots to shut me up.”

Dear also made reference to convicted Aurora Theater Shooter James Holmes saying “I am not going to agree to their mental health evaluations where they will take me and put me under psychotropic drugs so that I can’t talk like the batman guy.”

Dear is represented by Public Defender Dan King, who also represented Holmes.

The District Attorney’s office has not yet decided whether to pursue the death penalty.
