Colorado Springs police officer involved in accident

A Colorado Springs police officer is recovering after an accident Sunday night.

Police said it happened near the intersection of Woodmen Road and Union Boulevard around 8 p.m. Sunday.

Officers were heading north on Union when they reached a traffic light that was not working because of a power outage. After stopping, the squad car entered the intersection and was hit by a vehicle heading west on Woodmen.

The officer suffered head and neck pain and was taken to an area hospital. He was treated and released, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle was cited for careless driving and no insurance.
