Teen arrested on suspicion of having gun at college

A teen was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of bringing a gun to a school in Colorado Springs.

Officers were called to Everest College on Jet Wing Drive at around 8:30 p.m. on a report of a man in the school with a gun. They found the suspect in front of the school and detained him without incident, but no gun was found on him, police said.

Police searched the area and found an unloaded .357 revolver in a trash can in front of the school doors, near where they contacted the suspect.

Witnesses identified Samuel Jackson, 18, as the man with the weapon. He was arrested on charges that include possessing a weapon on school property, a class six felony.

Police said calls reporting a weapon at a school or large public venue are alarming.

“With everything that’s happened in our city and across the city, we take these situations very seriously, because we do not expect a citizen to know if a firearm is unloaded or loaded,” Colorado Springs Police Sgt. Pamela Castro said.
