Pueblo students give back to those less fortunate
Students in Pueblo are helping families stay warm during the holidays.
A Christmas tree at Fountain International Magnet School is decked out with hats, mittens and scarves. Kindergartens are sponsoring a mitten and hat drive, which ends on Dec. 11. The items will then be given to needy families in Pueblo.
First-grader Payton Odell said giving back is the right thing to do. “Because they need, actually need something to have and we have a lot of stuff to keep us warm and they mostly don’t have anything,” Payton said.
Families Helping Families, a nonprofit in Pueblo, will then distribute the items.
“There’s a high need and we’re just here to help Pueblo get back on their feet,” said Tara Crowe, vice president of Families Helping Families.
The school said the donation drive is a way to educate students about the importance of giving back, and also to embrace cultural celebrations around the world, including Boxing Day.
