Defense wants statements axed in fetus cut from womb case
Attorneys for a woman accused of cutting an unborn baby from another woman’s womb are asking a judge to suppress statements their client made to police on the day of her arrest.
The Daily Camera reports the attorneys for 35-year-old Dynel Lane argued Tuesday in Boulder District Court that police improperly gathered Lane’s statements. The defense also wants the search warrant for Lane’s home and search of her social media accounts and other records tossed out.
Lane is charged with attempted murder, unlawful termination of a pregnancy and multiple counts of felony assault.
Prosecutors say Lane attacked Michelle Wilkins and removed an unborn fetus from her womb on March 18. Wilkins survived but the fetus did not.
The prosecution asked the court to deny the motions from the defense.
