GOP leader defends House Planned Parenthood investigation
A top congressional Republican is giving no indication that last week’s fatal shootings at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado will affect a House probe of the group for providing fetal tissue to researchers.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters Monday that a special committee GOP leaders created to investigate Planned Parenthood is the best way to get to the truth about the organization. He noted that the panel has members from both parties.
The California Republican also contested remarks by Planned Parenthood defenders that harsh language by the group’s critics helped create a hostile political environment that could encourage people to react violently against the organization.
Rather, McCarthy said, the alleged attacker of the clinic is “a very evil, crazy man.”
