UPDATED: Juvenile accused of starting fire, damaging vehicles in Colorado Springs
A juvenile has been arrested in connection to a large fire at a carport near a Colorado Springs apartment building.
Following an investigation, a 12-year-old was arrested, accused of starting the fire while playing with a lighter, police said.
The two-alarm fire happened near Jetwing Drive and Baytown Drive back on November 8.
Firefighters say that at least five vehicles were damaged by the fire and the carport was destroyed. Right now, it’s unclear whether or not the fire started in the grass, carport, or one of the cars.
“It is not coined suspicious at this time, but once investigators finish their interviews and gathering details more information will be released,” said Lt. Carrick Patterson with the Colorado Springs Fire Department. “Fortunately the winds weren’t overly aggressive during the fire and that aided firefighters with getting a handle on it and the apparatus thrown at it quickly.”
Damage to the apartment complex has not yet been determined.
Dozens of people were evacuated.
