UPDATE: Public donates more than $84,000 for fallen CSP trooper
A GoFundMe page started for a fallen Colorado State Patrol trooper raised more than $84,000 in just six days.
Investigators said Trooper Jaimie Jursevics, 33, was hit and killed by a drunken driver while she was helping another motorist on Interstate 25 in Douglas County Nov. 15.Jursevics was 33 years old. She is survived by her husband and an 8-month-old daughter.
Susan Hinshaw created a GoFundMe page to raise money for Jursevics’ family. As of Sunday night, people had donated close to $85,000.
Hinshaw didn’t know Jursevics, but she was inspired to create the page after the outpouring of support her family in 2007. Hinshaw’s husband, Scott Hinshaw, is a Colorado State trooper who was involved in a crash in 2007. His partner died in the accident.
“We circled the drain financially, we really did,” said Susan Hinshaw. “There were people that were gracious enough to help us.”
A funeral service is scheduled for Jursevics on Monday and flags across the state will be flown at half-staff.
On Friday, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Sgt. Rob Madden spoke to KRDO NewsChannel 13 about his fallen comrade.
“She was somebody you couldn’t just let go with a quick hello,” said Madden. “I don’t know what it is, I can’t think of a time I passed her with a quick hello. It was always a conversation.”
He was a new instructor when Jursevics started at the academy in 2011.
“You’d see that same determination she had on Day 1, and she became more confident,” Madden said.
The State Patrol recently thanked the author of an anonymous note was dropped off at the patrol office.
“I pray for her and her family, both blood and blue,” the writer said in the note.
Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered flags be lowered to half-staff Monday, the day of her funeral.
“Her loss is reaching far beyond our family,” Madden said.
Investigators said retired Army Col. Eric Henderson hit Jursevics on Sunday and then fled the scene. He was released from jail after posting bail Thursday night and returned to his home in Peyton.Henderson faces charges for vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence and careless driving resulting in death.
