Thanksgiving travel: What to expect

Nearly 47 million Americans plan to travel this Thanksgiving. That’s why Colorado Springs Airport spokesperson Heather Lenard advises arriving early.

“TSA recommends a 2-hour check-in window so we are going to stand by that as well,” said Lenard. “This time of the year we expect heightened volumes of passenger traffic.”

Lenard says it’s easy to assume you can breeze through lines; this isn’t the case during the holidays. “We get used to having a convenient airport here and it doesn’t take long to get through security here and we would hate for our customer to miss their flight.”

The airport isn’t the only place where you can expect to see big crowds this week. More people will also be hitting the roads.

Travelers will pay less for gasoline than they have in more than a decade: under $2 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.

It’s something drivers are taking advantage of, but can mean bumper-to-bumper traffic.
