Re-development plan for South Nevada Avenue

South Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs is about to get a makeover if developers and the city’s economic development group get their way.

The proposal would bring new shops. restaurants and residential development to the area bounded by Arvada Street on the north and Cheyenne Boulevard on the south along Nevada Avenue.

It would be centered around Cheyenne Creek, it would be the focal point of the development.

City officials presented the proposal to the City Council Monday in their work session.

They say they’ve been looking at the area for a long time.

Bob Cope, the Economic Development Manager for the city said, “The city has been working with private developers to assemble private property and to re-transform that area into a modern urban commercial corridor but also a really cool urban mixed use area as well.”

Cope says that the council is expected to vote on the proposal in it’s regular session in two weeks.

He says that no public money will go towards the project.
