Historic western wear store is closing

It’s a Pueblo staple that’s been in the Steel City for more than a century, but now the owner of Cowboy Supply is closing the store’s doors.

Joshua McCrimmon is helping owner Nina Merhoff sell the items in her store. He said Merhoff decided to close the store, because she wanted to retire.

“She just didn’t have anyone who wanted to take it over, and she decided to close it down,” McCrimmon said.

He said the store is historic in Pueblo.

“There were dirt streets not far away from here, probably all the streets were dirt and wagons were rolling around, people were riding up on horses with hitching posts up front,” McCrimmon said.

Carol Norton is part of that history. She has been shopping at Cowboy Supply for more than 50 years. She was there when the store was called Clark’s Western Wear.

“When I come here, it’s home,” she said.

McCrimmon said he wants to have the shop open through Christmas.
