Manitou Springs encouraging local holiday shopping

About 40 shops in Manitou Springs will stay open late Friday to encourage customers to do their holiday shopping early.

The shops are participating in the town’s first-ever “Shop Manitou Friday.” They’ll stay open until 8 pm and have discounts, food and live music.

Participants say they want to offer a shopping experience different than what shoppers might get at big-box stores.

“We have one-of-a-kind stores here in Manitou Springs, everything is hand-picked by the buyers in those one-of-a-kind shops, so it’s shopping like you won’t get anywhere else,” said Juanita Canzoneri, with Commonwheel Artists Co-Op.

She said the event will also have a positive economic impact on the town.
