Wind causes a small fire in western Colorado Springs

The wind is causing a lot of problems around Southern Colorado Wednesday.

Trees and power lines are down throughout the west side of Colorado Springs.

The fire was at Bear Creek Regional Park on the city’s west side.

A downed power line sparked a fire late this morning.

It’s just one of the problems caused by today’s wind.

There were a number of locations in western Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs that saw wind damage today.

Firefighters told us that sparks from the downed power line sparked the fire.

While it didn’t get out of control, they were worried about that happening in these high winds.

Lt. Tom Hahn of the Colorado Springs Fire Department said, “Even though we had a snowstorm the other day, with these winds the light fuels can dry out quickly. And it’s still really dangerous over here on the west side.”

To prevent additional fires, city crews removed some of the trees around the line.
