UPDATE: Pueblo police investigate homicide

Pueblo police are searching for a man who fled from a car that was involved in a shooting and a car accident Sunday night.

It happened on Northern Avenue between Orman and Lake avenues around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Police said shots were fired at the 7-Eleven at Orman and Northern avenues. A man was shot. He left the scene in a gray car.

A few blocks away, he swerved into oncoming traffic on Northern Avenue and hit a taxi. A person in the taxi was taken to a hospital. The driver of the silver car was pronounced dead on the scene. A passenger in the car fled and police are looking for him. Police have not given a description of the passenger.

Raymond Montoya lives in the area. He heard the shots, saw the accident and ran over to help. He said the driver was bleeding from his stomach and saw bullet holes in the car.

“There were two bullet holes in the front windshield, the right side passenger windshield was shot out and then the young man was bleeding from his abdomen and there was blood on the side of the car so God only knows what happened,” said Montoya.

Police have not said why the shooting started at the 7-Eleven or if investigators believe it was gang related.

Northern Avenue between Lake and Orman avenues is closed for the investigation, police said.
