Marijuana shop owners want to give back to the community

Nonprofit organizations in Pueblo say there has been an increase in clients seeking assistance since the sale of recreational marijuana became legal.

Pueblo City Councilman John Cordova said marijuana shop owners wanted to give back to the community. Cordova suggested helping out nonprofits in Pueblo.

Cordova said shop owners would use money collected from their marijuana sales to give back to nonprofit groups.

One of the groups benefiting from this is the Pueblo Rescue Mission.

Jade Williams, program director for the group, said the extra money from pot shop owners could help buy another building to serve families.

“I think we need to use all the different resources that we can. So if they are a resource that is willing, we should be willing to partner with them,” Williams said.

Recreational marijuana shops in Pueblo County have made more than $10 million through September.
