Medal of Honor recipient will be featured in Pueblo
in cos, al, krdo nc 13. first up a former fort carson soldier receives the military’s highest honor.. today president obama awarded retired army captain florent groberg.. the medal of honor… groberg is credited for saving lives in afghanistan in august of 2012.. he was leading a security detail.. escorting brigade commanders and an afghan general.. when he noticed a suspicious man walking backward. a bomb was under that man’s clothes.. groberg and another soldier pushed the man away and to the ground where the bomb detonated. the action caused another suicide bombers’ weapon to detonate prematurely. groberg’s leg was severely injured.. and four of his fellow soldiers died – though more would have been killed… during todays ceremony.. groberg… gave credit to his fallen comrades.. captain flo groberg medal of honor recipient “this medal belongs to the true ?? heroes–names them …who made the ultimate sacrifice groberg says he will try to be a better american for the rest of his life … because of those four men. captain groberg joins a distinguished group of men who went above and beyond to save lives and protect our country. and that group has an important connection to pueblo. krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller is live at the convention center. greg, pueblo’s home to a massive tribute to war heroes. james, it was president roosevelt who called pueblo the home of heroes. you see that resemblance everywhere. and captain groberg’s achievements will soon add to it. 0:02 august 8th 2012 was the worst day of my life. even when he receives the medal of honor, army captain florent groberg insists – the attention shouldn’t be about him. 0:16 my hope is i represent the four guys killed and their families to the best of my ability. multiply that humility and bravery by nearly 3,496 – the total number of medal of honor recipients in american history. greg: standup: once captain groberg’s portrait is taken it will be displayed here at the center of american values in pueblo. and it’s the only collection of it’s kind open to the public. 0:34 i was proud, yet another person with a colorado connection received the medal of honor. matt albright is with the center for american values. he says more than 150 medal of honor recipients have been photograph ed since 1999… and since 20?l???l???l since 2010, their portraits have been on display here. 1:20 it’s humbling, definitely humbling. when you see these guys on the wall and realize each one of them did so much. and it’s selfless. a selfless and bravery honored in a room full of hero heroes. pueblo will get national attention on september 11th, 2017 when the medal of honor convention comes here. all of the living recipients will come together. it happened once before in the steel city, back in 2000. live in pueblo, gm, nc 13. and captain groberg is one of three fort carson soldiers who recently received the medal of honor in 2013… staff sergeant clinton romesha was awarded the medal.. for defending an american outpost in afghanistan from taliban fighters back in 2009.
