Veterans Day information

Veterans Day 2015 will be observed on Wednesday November 11.

Veterans Day began as Armistice Day in November 1919 and was created to honor veterans of World War I.

In June 1954, November 11 became Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is always observed on November 11, regardless of the day of the week.

This date was chosen because an armistice (temporary cessation of hostilities) between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918.

Most government offices, including the postal service, as well as banks are closed on Veterans Day.

Some public schools are closed on Veterans Day but many are open. Parents should check with their local school district to find out whether classes will be held on November 11.

Colorado Springs and Pueblo hosted Veterans Day parades on Saturday November 7. The third annual Veterans Day Run was also held Saturday at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs.

Pikes Peak Community College will host a Veterans Day celebration at its Centennial Campus on Wednesday. The official ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

Pueblo County High School is hosting a Veterans Day Ceremony Wednesday at 10 a.m.
