City leaders get tour of new Habitat for Humanity home

Friday afternoon, Colorado Springs city leaders visited a Habitat for Humanity home.

The home is in the Woodmen Vistas neighborhood in the Northeast side of town.

It’s the last of 37 to be completed in the subdivision for those in need of affordable housing.

Mayor John Suthers and Chief of Staff Jeff Greene toured Habitat for Humanity staff members, along with the family receiving the home.

Habitat organizers say it is a gift to be able to give to others.

“They’re not here asking for us to give them a hand up; they just want help. And the pride they take in having their own home. They get to sign their names on the studs in the walls, they get to meet all the volunteers, they know us at Habitat as part of their families and that we’re here to support them,” said Kris Medina, Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity Executive Director.

In total, the organization has built or rehabilitated 35 homes in El Paso County.
