Marijuana tax headlines Colorado’s off-year elections
Colorado is voting on state marijuana taxes and local issues that include a hotly contested school board recall in suburban Denver.
There is only one statewide ballot measure Tuesday. It seeks to correct an accounting error in marijuana taxes approved by voters in 2013. The taxes raised some $66 million in 2014.
Because of the error, the pot taxes must be refunded unless voters give the state permission to keep them. The ballot measure has encountered no organized opposition and is expected to pass easily.
As is typical of off-year elections, local questions dominate ballots. The school board recall effort against three board members in Jefferson County has attracted the most attention – and money.
