Foundation surprises Pueblo West teacher with an award

A Pueblo West teacher is being recognized for his contributions in the classroom.

Liberty Point International School science teacher Ryan Moore earned the Milken Educator Award. The award comes with $25,000. The award is from the Milken Family Foundation which recognizes teachers for their efforts in the classroom.

Moore was awarded the honor during a surprise assembly.

“I’m just so shocked and so honored. this is ridiculous. This is so funny. It was such a big surprise, and my team and I, we work so hard for these kids. It’s awesome,” he said.

His students say he deserves it.

“He is a really fun teacher. He always does a lot of nice things for kids, like for field trips. If you couldn’t pay for it, he would find a way to pay for you,” student Jenna Craig said.

Moore is the only teacher in Colorado to win the award.

He said he is going to spend his money on earning his master’s degree in administration.
