REI will close doors on Black Friday
A popular outdoor outfitter won’t have any door-busters or waiting line on the biggest shopping day of the year.
REI will close all 143 stores on Black Friday.
Most REI employees will not only get the day off, but they’ll also be getting paid.
We spoke with one customer in Colorado Springs who says she likes the idea.
“It’s radical enough to catch people’s attention, even people don’t who shop here. Now they’re going to know about REI because of this campaign. Even if customers think a price tag is expensive, they’ll know the company has good values,” said Jennifer Kenninger, a frequent REI customer in Colorado Springs.
REI is hoping to convince consumers to start a new Black Friday tradition, one that doesn’t involve buying anything.
The company says it wants people to go outside instead.
REI is also asking people to share what they’re doing on Black Friday through social media, by using the hashtag “opt outside.”
