Colorado Springs streets division prepares for snow season
The Colorado Springs streets division says it’s ready for the upcoming snow season.
Corey Farkas, manager of the streets division, told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the city has 59 plows for the season, and plow operators have completed training.
“We’re taking each storm as they come,” Farkas said. “They’re all different.”
Like previous years, Farkas said the emphasis will be on main roads during a major snow event.
“With a larger storm, six inches or more, once the primaries and collectors are cleared, we will get into residential,” Farkas said. “Otherwise, we just don’t have the resources to get to secondary streets. Our infrastructure is just too large.”
For a second year, the city has a “hot spot” list. Residents can report a troublesome residential area to the streets division.
“We have a lot of kids who walk to the bus in these residential areas, and we want to make sure they’re safe,” Farkas said. “So call into the streets division here. We’ll put you on our hot spot list. Once the primaries and secondaries are cleared, we make it a point to go into the residential areas to clear out the hot spots.”
