Getting ready for winter

Parts of Southern Colorado are still getting hit with heavy snow Wednesday night.

You could say winter is here.

With the season comes heavy snow and gusty winds, the kind of conditions that could leave you stuck in place for hours or even days.

If you are stuck, a disaster kit could be the difference between an inconvenience and a disaster.

Emergency managers say there are questions you should ask yourself before the season starts.

“Do you have your blanket? Your food and water? Maybe you need to get your prescriptions updated because you’re running low,” said Bart Howard from Colorado Springs Emergency Management.

Emergency managers in Colorado Springs recently held an exercise to prepare for the kind of storm that hit the city during late October 1997.
