Woman arrested after shots fired inside vehicle on I-25

A woman is facing charges after Colorado Springs police say she fired shots inside a vehicle on Interstate 25, with at least one of those bullets coming close to her toddler child.

It happened just after 5 p.m. Sunday near the Lake Avenue exit.

Police say Cynthia Yancey called police to report someone firing shots at her vehicle, saying one of the bullets struck the back window. She also told police her husband and child were with her in the vehicle.

When officers caught up with the vehicle near the intersection of East Pikes Peak Avenue and North Union Boulevard, they saw the bullet hole in the rear window. But police say Yancey and her husband refused to stop, so officers started a short pursuit.

Police caught up with the couple near the 300 block of Printers Parkway. They say they then learned that Yancey had actually fired the shots inside the vehicle, close to her child.

She was arrested on suspicion of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, child abuse and reckless endangerment.

Her husband, James Yancey, was cited and released for misdemeanor vehicular eluding and child abuse.
