UPDATED: CSPD confirms identities of murder victim and suspect

Update: Colorado Springs police are now confirming the victim in a Friday night shooting was 32-year-old Fawn Gianes. Police say she died of a gunshot wound and are calling her death a homicide.

Nikolas Anthony Gianes, 31, has been arrested on charges of second-degree murder. The former El Paso County sheriff’s deputy was advised of his charges on Monday and is being held on $50,000 bond.

The family of a woman killed at a shooting on Babcock Place said they are devastated, and the incident took from them a dedicated “soccer mom” and best friend.

KrystalWielichowski said her sister, Fawn Gianes, was killed at the home Friday. Wielichowski asked her sister be referred to by her maiden name Fawn Wielichowski and her married name, Gianes, be put in parenthesis.

“She’s a Wielichowski. That man murdered her,” said Krystal Wielichowski.

Krystal lives in Missouri and said Fawn was a wonderful mother and sister who kept the family close despite the distance.

“She was the glue, she always kept her act together and kept everyone in line,” said Krystal Wielichowski. “Even from 10 hours away.”

Krystal said Fawn adored her two children, calling Fawn a “soccer mom” who was involved in all her children’s activities.

“Her kids were No. 1, never has she faltered as a mother, she was always there,” said Krystal.

The home’s owner, Nikolas Gianes, was booked into the county jail Saturday morning for suspicion of second-degree murder. Police have not said if it’s in connection with a fatal shooting Friday night.

Krystal said there were incidents between Gianes and Fawn in the past that caused her concern, but nothing like this.

“There has been suspicion of abuse, there have been prior incidents, but none to this extent,” said Krystal. “I was numbing, I thought it was a cruel joke. I didn’t know what was happening. I hit the floor.”

Krystal hopes the incident encourages other people to get help.

“If there are any women out there getting abused, there is help out there, there is places to call, there is family you can just call and just go to. You don’t have to stay at home. Seek help, leave the situation,” said Krystal.

The family is raising money to help cover the costs of transporting Fawn back to Missouri.
