Colorado Springs warming shelter opens Monday
Cold weather shelters in Colorado Springs are beginning to open for the winter season.
Starting Monday, The Salvation Army Cold Weather Shelter on South Weber Street will start taking in people in need. It will provide 150 beds for adults on a first-come, first-serve basis. Line ups will start at 6 p.m. with check-ins at 7 p.m. People will need an ID or police referral.
The Salvation Army RJ Montgomery Center at 709 South Sierra Madre Street provides 200 beds for men, women and families. The shelter has 24-hour check-ins.
Starting November 1,the Springs Rescue mission at 5 West Las Vegas Street will open its winter shelter every night for men and women. The shelter has 60 beds, which will be available through a lottery system. Names will be posted outside the winter shelter doors on Mondays and Fridays.
People can sign up for the lottery at the Resource Advocate program from 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. or by calling the Springs Rescue Mission at 719.632.1822.
Anyone under the age of 18 should go to the Urban Peak Colorado Springs at 423 East Cucharras Street.
