UPDATE: Police investigate Springs shooting death; possible arrest made

A Colorado Springs man is in custody, possibly related to a fatal shooting Friday night.

According to public records, Nikolas Gianes was sworn into the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy in 2008.

Gianes was booked into the county jail Saturday morning forsuspicion of second-degree murder.

Police have not said if it’s in connection with a fatal shooting Friday night.

The Colorado Springs Police Department says officers were called to a home to investigate reports of shots fired and found a woman dead inside.

The cause of death appears to have been a gunshot wound, police said.

The incident happened at around 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 5300 block of Babcock Place near Palmer Park Blvd. and Babcock Rd. on the east side. The closest major intersection is Powers and Palmer Park.

Police say that detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit believe they have made contact with everyone who was directly involved in the incident. They were being interviewed late Friday night.
