Investigators: Father accidentally shoots son in chest

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says a shooting northwest of Colorado Springs Thursday appears to have been an accident.

The shooting reportedly happened off of Rampart Range Road near Loy Creek Road, northeast of Woodland Park.

The shooting was reported at 1:30 p.m.

The sheriff’s office says the father and son had been out recreational shooting, and were sitting in their vehicle when the accident happened. It says the father was clearing his gun when it discharged.

The son, who is in his 30s, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The father is in his 60s. No names are being released because the shooting was an accident.
