Taking “say no to drugs” to new heights
A Pueblo City school is taking the message “say no to drugs” to new heights.
On Oct. 13, 2015 the Colorado National Guard landed a helicopter at Highland Park.
The school said they had it planned for their annual Red Ribbon week – a week that’s dedicated to drug abuse awareness.
The school hoped that the event would help bring more kids out to the event in hopes of teaching them how to say no to drugs.
The kids said they enjoyed the event and were “wowed” by the helicopter.
Although the helicopter helped to draw an audience, the information is what the kids retained.
“I thought it was a cool experience, they said stuff like ‘stay away from drugs’ and how to make good choices for your future,” said student Dominic Ayala.
“I learned that if I do drugs then I do not have stuff like to do, like in the army of go work as a nurse,” said another Highland Park student Adrina Martinez.
The drug enforcement administration was also at the school teaching kids the consequences of doing drugs.
