Pueblo police could receive more money for speed enforcement

Pueblo City Council will decide if police will get more funding to catch drivers who are speeding.

It’s on the agenda for Tuesday night.

The more than $30,000 grant is from the Colorado Department of Transportation and it would give officers overtime to ticket people who speed.

Officers say the number of tickets is down nearly 50 percent compared to last year because there aren’t enough officers on the streets.

Pueblo Police Traffic Sgt. Howard Jackson said the grant could improve safety and make more money for the city.

“This allows us to go above and beyond that to allow people to go on overtime and actually do that enforcement without a cost to the city,” he said.

The vote is set to happen at 7 p.m. inside city hall on Tuesday.
