Colorado Springs shooting survivor writes letter to Congress

Following recent school shootings, a Colorado Springs shooting survivor is pleading for change by writing a letter to Congress.

In the past few weeks there have been a handful of school shootings. The most recent shooting was Friday at Northern Arizona University.

Laurie Works survived the New Life Church shooting in Colorado Springs in 2007 but she lost her twin and younger sister, and her father was injured.

Works says every time she hears news of a new shooting, it brings back memories.

She recently wrote a letter to Congress that’s gained national attention and received thousands of views and shares.

Work is not against concealed carry permits but said she wants Congress to think more responsibly.

“Could I pick up a gun and do what someone had done to my sisters? I knew I couldn’t, even if I just hurt them, causing that same kind of harm I’ve seen. I just couldn’t do the same thing,” said Works.
